Essay --
In Defence of Terror and Liberty This essay is a summary of the first two chapters of ââ¬Å"In Defence of Terror and Liberty.â⬠It takes into cognizance important points raised by the book in regard to the French Revolution. The first part of the summary deals with chapter 1 of the book while the second one summarizes chapter 2 of the same book. The first chapter to discuss is ââ¬Å"The Emotions in the Demand for Terror.â⬠To the French people, the Revolution was a national project which was to be undertaken by all bonafide citizens of the country. Also, they viewed the Revolution as a fight to defend their basic rights. This chapter of this book presents a lot of points in connection with the Revolution. The first point is that the peopleââ¬â¢s feelings are closely tied to events which further elicited more reactions. One of such events happened in 1793: the death of Marat. In the quotation, ââ¬Å"the death of Marat aroused a feeling of dread in the people of Paris. This dread was initially sublimated in the form taken by Maratââ¬â¢s funeral ceremony, before being turned into a popular demand for vengeance and terror.â⬠In the quotation above, the events that was closely tied to the demand for vengeance is the manner Maratââ¬â¢s death. Apparently, Marat was a revolutionist who died while fighting for what they believed in. The way Marat died elicited dread, which is one of the basic ingredients that unified the people to request for the addition of terror to their defense when defending themselves against their enemies. To have a firm grip of why dread was a stimulus, it is essential to understand the peopleââ¬â¢s belief in regard to freedom. The second point highlighted by this chapter is that the death of a martyr is considered as a tragedy which demands ve... ...t not be desecrated by anyone. Attempts to do so were met with a fight. These are highlighted by skirmishes among revolutionists. Having read through the book, I find it both technical and interesting to read. It is technical because the choices of words and sentence structure were top-notch and efforts were not spared at making the paper interesting. Further, after reading the book, it seemed as if I was reading the French Revolution for the first time because it gave detailed analysis of facts which could easily elude the public. Conclusively, I did have ââ¬Ëenoughââ¬â¢ knowledge of the Revolution before reading this book. However, I had not read these parts of the Revolution before in any book. The first few facts I encountered in chapter one whet my appetite to read further. Eventually, I read the book and feel more knowledgeable on the Revolution which shook France.

Computer System
Computer System Introduction & Definitions ââ¬â Computer is an electronic device that is used to solve various problems according to a set of instructions given to it ââ¬â A computer is a programmable machine that receives input, stores and manipulates data, and provides output in a useful format Brief History of Computer ââ¬â The first use of the word ââ¬Å"computerâ⬠was recorded in 1613, referring to a person who carried out calculations, or computations, and word continued to be used in that sense until middle of 20th century From end of 19th century onwards though, word began to take on its more familiar meaning, describing a machine that carries out computations ââ¬â The history of computer development is often referred to in reference to different generations of computing devices ââ¬â Each generation of computer is characterized by a major technological development that fundamentally changed way computers operate, resulting in increasingly smaller, ch eaper, more powerful and more efficient and reliable devices Computer Generations First Generation (1940-1956 ) ââ¬â The first computers used vacuum tubes for circuitry and agnetic drums for memory, and were often enormous, taking up entire rooms ââ¬â They were very expensive to operate and in addition to using a great deal of electricity, generated a lot of heat, which was often the cause of malfunctions ââ¬â First generation computers relied on machine language, lowest-level programming language understood by computers, to perform operations, and they could only solve one problem at a time Computer Generations First Generation (1940-1956 ) ââ¬â Input was based on punched cards and paper tape, and output was displayed on printouts The UNIVAC and ENIAC computers are examples of firstgeneration computing devices ââ¬â The UNIVAC was the first commercial computer delivered to a business client, the U. S. Census Bureau in 1951 Computer Generations Second Generation ( 1956-1963 ) ââ¬â Transistors replaced vacuum tubes and ushered in the second generation of computers ââ¬â The transistor was invented in 1947 but did not see widespread use in computers until the late 1950s ââ¬â The transistor was far superior to the vacuum tube, allowing computers to become smaller, faster, cheaper, more energyefficient and more reliable than their first-generation predecessors Though the transistor still generated a great deal of heat that subjected the computer to damage, it was a vast improvement over the vacuum tube Computer Generations Second Generation (1956-1963 ) ââ¬â Second-generation computers still relied on punched cards for input and printouts for output ââ¬â Second-generation computers moved from cryptic binary machine language to symbolic, or assembly, languages, which allowed programmers to specify instructions in words ââ¬â High-level programming languages were also being developed at this time, such as early versions of COB OL and FORTRAN These were also the first computers that stored their instructions in their memory, which moved from a magnetic drum to magnetic core technology. Computer Generations Third Generation (1964 -1971) ââ¬â The development of the integrated circuit was the hallmark of the third generation of computers ââ¬â Transistors were miniaturized and placed on silicon chips, called semiconductors, which drastically increased the speed and efficiency of computers ââ¬â Instead of punched cards and printouts, users interacted with third generation computers through keyboards and monitors and interfaced with an operating system which allowed the device to run many different applications at one time with a central program that monitored the memory ââ¬â Computers for the first time became accessible to a mass audience because they were smaller and cheaper than their predecessors. Computer Generations Fourth Generation (1971-Present) ââ¬â The microprocessor brought fourt h generation of computers, as thousands of integrated circuits were built onto a single silicon chip ââ¬â What in the first generation filled an entire room could now fit in the palm of the hand. ââ¬â The Intel 4004 chip, developed in 1971, located all the components of the computer from the central processing nit and memory to input/output controls on a single chip ââ¬â In 1981 IBM introduced its first computer for the home user, and in 1984 Apple introduced the Macintosh Computer Generations Fourth Generation (1971-Present) ââ¬â Microprocessors also moved out of the realm of desktop computers and into many areas of life as more and more everyday products began to use microprocessors. ââ¬â As these small computers became more powerful, they could be linked together to form networks, which eventually led to the development of the Internet ââ¬â Fourth generation computers also saw the development of GUIs, the mouse and handheld devicesComputer Generations â⠬â Fifth Generation (Present and Beyond ) ââ¬â Fifth generation computing devices, based on artificial intelligence, are still in development, though there are some applications, such as voice recognition, that are being used today ââ¬â The use of parallel processing and superconductors is helping to make artificial intelligence a reality ââ¬â Quantum computation and molecular and nanotechnology will radically change the face of computers in years to come ââ¬â The goal of fifth-generation computing is to develop devices that respond to natural language input and are capable of learning and self-organizationClassification & Types of Computer ââ¬â Supercomputer sâ⬠¦ are used to process very large amounts of information including processing information to predict hurricanes, satellite images and navigation, and process military war scenarios Classification & Types of Computer ââ¬â Mainframes â⬠¦ are used by government and businesses to process very lar ge amounts of information Classification & Types of Computer ââ¬â Mini -Computersâ⬠¦ are similar to mainframesâ⬠¦ they are used by business and government to process large amounts of information Classification & Types of Computer ââ¬â Personal Computers (PC) ââ¬â ââ¬â ââ¬â ââ¬â ââ¬â are smaller and less owerful than the others. They are used in homes, schools, and small businesses. There are 3 main types of PCs Desktop Portable (Notebook/Laptop) Hand -Held ( Mobile devices/ cellphone, PDAs) Classification & Types of Computer Desktop Classification & Types of Computer Portable Classification & Types of Computer Hand -Held Computer Hardware ââ¬â These are physical parts of computer ââ¬â These are things that can be seen & touched ââ¬â System unit, Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor Computer Software ââ¬â A set of computer instructions given to computer to solve problems ââ¬â Stored inside computer memory ââ¬â Can not be touched or seen

The Love for American Football
Someone who is from another country like me, may believe that life in the United States is very diverse from life anywhere else. Countless people from other countries have a completely distorted image of how we may live there in America and the mentalities thatthey all posess. Not all of Americans are spoiled, overweight, or are obsessed with football. All of them are completely different for the most part, and are actually concerned about what is occurring in the world today. However, I do believe I can say that most Americans are proud to be here, and proud to represent the UNITED States, and that pride and love is shared by everyone, kind of like a big family. Just like other countries, there are things that the people tend to be attracted to more than another group of people would. For example, in Mexico, soccer is huge, and almost everyone there is crazy about it, but here in the United States, soccer doesnââ¬â¢t hold near as many fans.Since one doesnââ¬â¢t really know a lo t about the life in the United States, and the things all Americans seem to enjoy, I would like to enlighten you to the one thing that I believe is totally ââ¬ËAmericanââ¬â¢. And of coarse, I would have to say its football. Now, no all of Americans enjoy the hazardous sport, but about nine out of ten of them absolutely adore it(including myseld). The competition and the thrill that you get from watching breathtaking game, will most likely have you sitting at the edge of your seat, not wanting to miss a minute of whar you are seeing take place on the television screen. The runs, the cheers, the interceptions, the touchdowns, and most of all the victory when itââ¬â¢s all over is what I believe makes football what is it today in the society of Americans. If you were to meet another Amrican, I can almost guarantee that the person has a favorite football team that they support with all of theit hearts. Football is everywhere: city leages, college teams, professional teams, and

Student development in higher education Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Student development in higher education - Essay Example Higher education institutions tend to spend more on students particularly with a good educational profile in order to bring them up as potential faculty members or else, knowledgeable scholars to serve the country at various levels. Students are most ambitious about their professional careers while they are in their higher education. Students tend to do study harder in an attempt to be eligible for various scholarships that are offered by the higher education institutions. This comes as a source of inspiration for the relatively careless students, and they tend to realize the importance of working hard. In turn, they also participate in the race of professional development. Ambitious class fellows serve as a source of inspiration for the usually careless students. Higher education institutions particularly encourage the students to work harder by making them aware of their faculty development programs. Nowadays, many higher education institutions including government and private colleges and universities offer faculty development programs in which they bear their teachersââ¬â¢ tuition and accommodation expenses while they go abroad for to foreign reputable universities for further education. The institutions finance their faculty so that they would be equipped with faculty educated in well-ranked universities across the globe. This causes a good impression of the institution on the prospective students and the institutions get more applications from capable students in the country. The current students who have already been made aware of the faculty development programs tend to work harder in order to secure the minimum GPA required to make them eligible for selection as a faculty member in the future. Many higher education institutions are practically linked with industries and are responsible to ensure a constant supply of scholars and educated personnel to take part in the

Care Delivery and Care Management in Nursing Case Study
Care Delivery and Care Management in Nursing - Case Study Example (Kurtzman and Corrigan, 2007, 20-36). This patient, Mr. John Smith has mental disability. Maintenance of Safe Environment: The nurse plans therapeutic interventions for clients with actual or potential risks for safety based on the nursing assessment of the risks and a development of a care plan for the specific client through a process called nursing process (Scott-Cawiezell and Vogelsmeier, 2006, p. 179-215). Nursing Process: The Roper et al. model for nursing offers a framework where during care, the nurse is able to ensure that his individuality is taken adequate care of and provided due weightage. The Roper-Logan-Tierney model recommends a problem-solving approach in the nursing process (Roper, Logan, and Tierney, 1983, 17-19). Deriving from this, nursing process can be defined as a systematic approach to planning and delivering nursing care. This process comprises of four main stages, namely, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. After the problem is determined, the nurse can then assess the needs of the patient. Depending on the needs, a plan of care is developed, depending on which the nurse can determine nursing goals. Once the goal is set, the chosen nursing care strategies can then be implemented, after which, it is also important to evaluate the care process, since any gap can be rectified through evaluation (Roper, Logan, and Tierney, 1983, 17-19). Assessment: Assessment is a cyclica... Smith. His main and actual problem was that he was unable to maintain his own internal and external safe environment due to his confused and impaired cognitive state. Rate of breathing, pattern of chest movement, presence of cyanosis, and pulse oximetry are important steps of assessment. It is important to remain aware that if needed, oxygen needs to be prescribed. Neurological assessment needed to be undertaken to assess the state of confusion and cognition. The aggression was also needed to be assessed. A safe external environment needed to be assessed by positioning of Mr. John Smith on bed, protective devices, and his own mobility. Apart from these, it was also important to assess whether all equipment for emergency care was within reach and was in working order. These included oxygen, suction apparatus, emergency trolley and resuscitation kit (Lesa and Dixon, 2007, 166-172). Identification of the Actual and Potential Problems: While assessing Mr. Smith, his actual and potential problems were prioritized. He was elderly with confusion and memory loss. Therefore, he was dependent for his care and needs. His religious and spiritual needs were also important parts of the assessment. His most important need was his care needs in terms of safety. Once his respiratory safety was ensured, his other actual problems were identified. He was having a problem with mobility due to age and confused state. This would call for positioning in the bed, safety arrangements in the bed and bed to chair mobility. Due to bed-ridden condition, he might have pressure sore or deep vein thrombosis (Roper, Logan, and Tierney, 1983, 43-44). Independent movement was also unsafe. He could end up having falls that is a safety risk. He was having aggression that

McDonald's corporation financial analysts(Potential risks that could Research Paper
McDonald's corporation financial analysts(Potential risks that could affect McDonald's future performance, and any recommendations you have for McDonald's) - Research Paper Example This has been the key to its success. In addition, the companyââ¬â¢s model is to deliver restaurant experiences that are locally relevant to customers (Love 61). The business has been able to establish itself in a number of countries including; Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa, U.S, Canada and Latin America among other parts of the world. It is important to note, by the end of last year (2014) more than 80% of the company had been franchised.
